Forgiveness and Healing: The Christian Journey Toward Reconciliation
Posted by Johnathan Miller on Dec 15, 2024
Forgiveness is more than a theological concept—it’s a spiritual practice that carries immense power to heal. It’s easy to say we forgive, but the true depth of forgiveness is often revealed when we are confronted with situations that challenge our hearts. For many, forgiveness feels like an uphill battle, especially when the wounds are fresh and the pain is raw. Yet, forgiveness is not just for the one who wronged us, but it is for us as well. It’s a gift we give ourselves. The act of forgiving doesn’t erase the harm that was done, nor does it mean we ignore the pain. Rather, it acknowledges the hurt, the wrong, and the injustice but chooses to let go of the bitterness and the need for vengeance. Forgiveness is a process, not an event. It takes time, and sometimes it means forgiving daily until healing begins to take root. Forgiveness is deeply tied to our ability to experience reconciliation, not only with others but with God. Jesus' words in Matthew 6:14-15 remind us that if we don’t forgive others, God cannot forgive us. It’s a powerful reminder that our spiritual life is not just between us and God, but it also involves how we interact with and treat those around us.
